Aquila's Red Series strings reach lower notes by making the material denser rather than making the string thicker, so the gauge stays almost unchanged across the set.
How They Differ
- Aquila explains that a thicker string is duller and less responsive, and needs to be fretted harder, which pulls it out of tune. Keeping the gauges slim is meant to give a brighter, more responsive sound and better intonation across the fretboard.
- Each string uses a different percentage of metal powder, so the shade of red varies slightly from string to string. Aquila notes this is intended, not a defect.
Before You String
- Stretch the strings gently with your fingers. Aquila says they settle in tune in 2 to 3 days.
